Creativity

Once shunned, now claimed

Yonks ago I pitched a campaign idea that apparently hit the spot with the team and the powers that be. But by the time we got to launch, the thing we went live with bore zero resemblance to the original concept.

NGL, it’s always low key bugged me - and really hammered home the adage that it’s execution that matters, not the ideas.

On a happier note, while doing research for a new project recently, turns out another brand did basically this exact campaign a couple years ago. Seeing that was weirdly relieving. I feel like I can finally let this rest. It’s been used, it’s out in the world, so now I can let it go.

Creative is not a label I ever felt like I could legit adopt, but that’s started to shift lately. Weirdly, parenting has helped ignite this. Never knew I could make up stories on the spot, on demand (whether centred around teaching moments like eating veges or self regulation).

In this ep:

  • rethinking what creativity is

  • owning it as part of your identity

  • how it’s like a muscle (and needs rest!)

Referenced: Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey

Runtime: 4 mins 47 secs, or enough time to start making a 2025 bingo card, run out of steam (even with a mix of basic & NSFW items) and then decide to come back to it later
